Story: ‘Anegan’ meaning ‘many’ or a man having multiple personalities. And true to its meaning the story revolves around a single man Dhanush essaying 4 different roles that take us back and forth to multiple periodic setups. He plays a guy from the slums, rustic village guy, a modern man and the fourth one; well you have to watch the movie. This is a romantic thriller laced with actions, sequences and dances. Karthik plays the love-guru to Dhanush. The movie revolves around several periodic setups with Dhanush playing 4 different lead roles.
Plus Points: Dhanush essayed all his four different roles with much ease and aplomb. Dhanush sports a hairstyle resembling Rajinikanth in one of the roles. At another time in another periodic setup he travels back to his previous birth. In yet another flashback which takes us to another periodic setup Dhanush appears as a schoolboy. Karthik playing Love Guru to Dhanush has given a good performance. This love guru role reminds one of a similar role played by “Santhanam in Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru”. He looks entirely different in each of his role as has the habit of getting into the skin of his roles. The portions of Kaali and the encounter with the villain in the climax is superbly shot.
Actress Amyra Dastur, who is making her debut in Tamil films is said to have took Tamil lessons from Dhanush himself. She essayed three different roles alongside Dhanush. Her acting skills and her stunts in the movie have earned her kudos. The fourth role played by another star Aishwarya Devan is in her usual self.
As for Music, Harris Jayaraj has composed some beautiful romantic numbers mixing groovy reggae rhythm with peppy drum beats that sets you in motion to jig your hip a bit. All in all Harris Jayaraj has composed engaging pleasant songs and soundtrack for the movie is quite in tune with the storyline and narration. Anegan is the best soundtrack that Harris Jayaraj has produced so far for KV Anand. Songs like Yolo and Athadi Athadi received good response from the music lovers. Especially, the marana mass dangamari song in the second half will make the audiences go wild with claps, catcalls and whistles. Harris music is also a main asset for this film Nothing much to speak of Camera work, though pretty good as it takes us back and forth to the periodic times.
Minus Points: With Dhanush donning four different roles and Harris Jayaraj rocking Anegan with his wonderful music would there be any minus points?
Analysis: Anegan is a romantic thriller with Dhanush donning 4 different roles; and with action scenes and stunts, the movie keep you engaged to the end.
Verdict: Anegan pins you down to your seats. A must watchable movie.
